Fair Cancer Care Starts with Facts - How We Measure Our Way to Equity

Why don't all patients get the same chance?

Despite our ambition for equitable cancer care, reality shows significant differences - depending on where you live, who you are, and what type of cancer you have. Changing this requires more than good intentions - it requires measurement, follow-up, and transparency.

This seminar takes you through the patient's journey in healthcare - from diagnosis to aftercare - and identifies where and how disparities arise.

Through concrete examples and current data, we show how structural inequalities affect both access to care and treatment outcomes. We discuss:

  • How we can improve the coordination and access to cancer-specific quality registries to gain better insights into disparities in care and medication use.

  • Lessons learned from successful quality registries in other healthcare areas, such as Swedeheart, and how these can be applied to enhance equity in cancer care.

  • The need for a national and uniform structure for the early detection and treatment of cancer, and the role government oversight should play in reducing geographical disparities.

We conclude by formulating concrete proposals for action - from national policy to priorities in research and development.
